Sustainability

Environmental issues have always been high in NHT's thinking.

Textile production is a global activity but we start by asking what we can source locally? This is because it is much easier to check, visit and overcome any issues of concern when our supplier is local, as well as cut down on 'product miles'.

All our braids & trimmings, most of our textile printing and accessory component manufacture is responsibly carried out in the UK.

Textile manufacture is a little harder to source in the UK, especially for niche products such as roller blind fabric that demands wide width, seamless fabric with a coating. Here, most of our fabrics are made at a Swedish plant who we have worked with for 30 years. Sweden has one of the strictest environmental regulations anywhere, and are pleased with the great care that goes into producing our fabrics.

The Swedish company who manufactures them for us has worked continuously to reduce the impact on the environment from all activities and carries this out in accordance with their sustainability program Five Zero Green. This is also in accordance with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Agenda 2030.

This means that over 70% of the fabrics in our new collection are manufactured either CO2 neutral or from recycled yarns.

Many of our fabrics have been tested to Oekotex standard 100, which means our fabrics are free from harmful chemicals, pesticides, etc.

ReEco & Neo fabrics

ReEco roller blind fabric made from recycled yards  Neo recycled polyester and PET roller blind fabric in window

ReEco is woven in Japan and from 95% recycled polyester, while Neo is made in Sweden from reclaimed PET.

Our fabric binder

recycled polypropylene collection book

Even the binder for our collection book is made from polypropylene (a material that can be recycled up to 60 times) and contains high levels of recycled material.

Heating our buildings

Our heating comes from investment in high-tech equipment that converts surplus wood from the woodlands adjacent to our Herefordshire buildings into warm water and heat.
