About us

New House was started by Harold Stanier as a clever and innovative textile business back in 1921. Today it's still owned by the same family who continue the tradition by creating and designing high quality textile products, notably fabrics for roller blinds, blind accessories, haberdashery, braids & trimmings and kitchen homeware products.

Whilst based in rural Herefordshire, New House has exported products all round the world and our philosophy is to combine British creativity, flair, craftsmanship and innovation under the one roof.

New House operates from 300yr old buildings, deep in rural Herefordshire and close to a bend in the River Wye.

Where we work

Working in our quiet rural setting is always a source of great inspiration. Please call by if you are passing as we always enjoy having visitors.

Our process

Our Company policy is always to do our own thing and go our own way, working with a small group of weavers, dyers, printers and manufacturers that we know well, just as they know us too. Many of our suppliers are small manufacturers with great traditional craft skills, who are never short of good advice on how to design and make new products.

Responsibility

The environment is everyone’s concern so we always look carefully at where and how things are made. We try to ensure that all our products are made to the highest possible standards and without damage to the environment.

Where we make things

We get as many items made as locally as possible, such as our painted items that are carefully made a few miles away in Ledbury, or our braids and trimmings in Derbyshire (below). Our fabrics are usually printed in the UK, but many of our fabrics are created in a specialist mill in Sweden who we've worked with for over 30 years. We also use a careful weaver in Japan who is skilled at combining the latest technology with old traditional ways of textile production.
