The best blinds for summer have got to be sheers and we have just launched a wider version of one of our classics Nimbus as well as two brand new ultra-wide sheers.
With window sizes getting larger, the growing popularity of bi-fold garden doors and with architects using floor-to-ceiling architectural glass in place of walls, we have been expanding our fabrics too.
Nimbus has been one of our classic plain sheer fabrics for years and is now available in a super-usable 2.35m version.
Meanwhile, two new 2.9m wide designer sheers have been created Ciro and Soul that offer a little more surface interest in their weaves. Soul is a sheer with a subtle slub effect, while in Ciro the warp and weft is a little more pronounced. Both look great at the window, are due to appear in New House’s forthcoming new roller collection although samples and stock are available now :
Sheers are worth their weight in gold when it comes to light control especially when Summer sunlight is at its strongest. A typical sheer like Nimbus will reflect about a third of the UV and visible light back outside which helps control glare, keep the room cool and protect sensitive furnishings. This is especially useful in a fabric that’s also been designed to catch the light and enhance the elegance of the window.
We launched our first sheer Cosmo (above), over thirty years ago, so have always been pioneers of these elegant fabrics in the home. Our designers love printing on them, using clever woven techniques or burnout effects to produce other sheer effects and create some of the most beautiful fabrics on the market.
Trace is made on a unique machine in Japan that adds effect yarns into the weave in a slightly random way.
While Clover is a subtle two-tone print that we put on our Cosmo fabric.
A print or a plain – sheers always make the most perfect Summer blind fabrics!
