Classic Porsche repaired with a Domicet spring

It has to be said that most of our spring systems go into roller blinds where they spend their life in someone's home, smoothly taking a blind up and down. Yet there is the odd spring is given a different role in life...

Recently we were contacted by the owner of a classic 924 Porsche who was having problems with his retractable parcel shelf, as the original spring had grown tired and stopped retracting.

It turned out that the steel peg on our Finnish-made spring system was almost the same as Porsche's original mechanism. So with a bit of mackling and fitting the retractable parcel shelf now works like new. 

 

 

We suspect our customer has excellent DIY skills and says : 'By way of background I started my career as a business & engineering apprentice at English Electric and then worked on aircraft projects buying parts for Concorde, the Harrier development and most military aircraft of that time. My real skills though were honed by my father who taught me the benefits of self-harming with a hammer and nails when I was three, a skill I passed on to both on my daughters. Since then cars and DIY have remained a main interest.'

After fixing his classic Porsche we now hear he is learning to drive a historic steam train...

 

New House supplied a standard 20mm Domicet spring system but our happy Porsche owner says that if he was doing the job again, he'd probably choose the 17mm option. 

 

 

Domicet of Finland springs come in 17mm, 20mm, 25mm, 28mm and 32mm options.

They work very well in window blinds. Or fast cars.
